"Basic Instinct" - The Movie Masterpiece
The first real post of this blog could be any but…. 1992’s Paul Verhoeven movie masterpiece.
The original Basic Instinct was written in THIRTEEN days by Joe Eszterhas. Happily, gay rights organizations tried to stop the movie production, what just ended up drawing more attention to it.
Obviously, it was a box office hit. Starring a beautiful Sharon Stone and a masculine Michael Douglas, Basic Instinct was an unforgettable success. I also like very much George Dzunda and Jeanne Tripplehorn here.
And I LOVE Jerry Goldsmith’s soundtrack. It rocks. (I have to listen to it everyday)
Well, for those who don’t know the movie, it really is a must-see. It starts with the frightening murder of a retired rock n’ roll star, by an unidentifiable blond. Then, the detective Nick “The Shooter” Curran (Douglas) investigates the crime, getting more and more involved with the victim’s girlfriend: the blond sexy novelist Catherine Tramell (Stone). But she’s not the only suspect. The last scene of this movie is truly perfect…
Besides, this movie stars a lot of things everyone surely heard about: crossed legs, ice picks, bisexualism (which I don’t consider portrayed as homophobic), and a lot of skin, flesh and blood.
My favorite movie ever. Later, I’ll talk about the sequel, Basic Instinct 2 - Risk Addiction.
PS. Favorite quote from this movie:
[from the famous interrogation scene]
Corelli: There's no smoke in this building, Miss Tramell.
Catherine: What are you gonna do? Charge me with smoking?
